Recently, China Mobile completed the decoupling and docking test of carrier-grade CloudOS and commercial SDN system for the first time, that is, China Mobile Telecom’s cloud operating system CloudOS and ZTE’s ZENIC SDN controller. ZTE helps China Mobile successfully introduce SDN networking in NFV deployment, accelerates the three-layer decoupling and NFV process of China Mobile's core network, promotes the development of standardization of NFV and SDN interfaces, and builds more flexible China Mobile's future-oriented 5G network New infrastructure platform.

The content of this joint test included environmental installation inspection, basic function and stability test, and verified the special protocol extensions of more than 20 NFV scenarios, and realized the automatic network opening and dynamic adjustment of NFV sites. SDN technology can continuously improve network resource utilization efficiency, enhance network virtualization capabilities, simplify compatibility with existing deployments, and improve network agility in a variety of business automation scenarios during the entire life cycle of NFV network elements. It is worth noting that this test uses the Openflow protocol as the standard protocol for SDN control and forwarding separation, and OVSDB as the standard protocol for vSwitch management, which meets the requirements of decoupling and docking, and vigorously promotes the standardization of NFV and SDN interfaces.

At present, China Mobile has started the testing and pilot work of virtualization transformation, and plans to actively introduce SDN technology in phases to realize automatic network configuration, enhance network service capabilities and horizontal expansion capabilities; its newly-built core network and value-added service network elements will also Using virtualized network elements with NFV architecture to gradually replace traditional network elements, the goal is to achieve resource sharing at the hardware level through software and hardware decoupling, gradually expand the scope of resource sharing in the resource pool, and quickly promote network virtualization transformation.

The ZTE ZENIC SDN vDC controller tested this time is widely compatible with mainstream virtualization software, and is positioned in the application scenarios of hybrid overlay, hardware overlay, and software overlay; in addition to China Mobile Telecom’s cloud operating system, it also works with third-party OpenStack such as RedHat. The cloud platform completes the successful docking, provides unified resource planning and deployment, and can quickly build a new type of virtualized data center. As the first OpenDaylight platinum member in China, ZTE has so far cooperated with leading global operators to deploy 360 SDN/NFV commercial and POC test projects, and has undertaken the construction of virtualized data center projects for many domestic and foreign operators and enterprise users, including China Mobile Hohhot Private Cloud, Shanghai Telecom LSN Project, Guangxi Telecom CO Reconstruction Project, Zhuhai Smart City and VEON Multi-Country NFVI Project, etc.
